People Make Glasgow

A happy, chatting woman and man walk through Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow while enjoying takeaway coffees.

Glasgow, more than anywhere else, is where I call home. I wasn’t born or brought up there but the city, its character, its music, its culture, its stress and, yes, its people have had more impact on who I am than anywhere else. I think for so many Glaswegians (born or adopted) the place has an intangible air all of its own. There’s an underlying quality that makes it hard to explain and easy to miss. Receiving the call to help showcase this wonderful place was a bit of a dream. In the wake of a global pandemic, city centre life; shopping, eating, drinking, social culture, was decimated.

Along with Glasgow Life I worked on a new campaign set out to entice and encourage people back to the streets of the city. We were also shooting with a view to creating a bank of images that could be used long after COVID. This meant we were shooting masks and social distancing as well as more ‘normal life’. This stills project worked alongside another excellent film by Glasgow production house Forest of Black, directed by the sensational Michael Sherrington.
