The Diary Vol. 2

‘The Diary’ is a short, intermittent dive into things I'm loving, enjoying, working on, discovering or learning about.

It’s the shit I send to my pals, made public (maybe with a little editing).

I hope you enjoy and if there’s anything you think I should check out in the future make sure you leave me a note in the comments.

BOOK I’M LOVING

Faith, Hope And Carnage

Nick Cave is someone whose work I’ve come and gone from over the years, but he’s an undeniable icon, in the most impressive way. His enigma, his honest in recent years, his multidisciplinary output. He’s unparalleled, one like no other.

I’ve not finished this yet but it’s a fascinating conversation coming at what seems to be an especially significant point in his life.

ARTICLE I’M READING

Brian Eno Reveals The Hidden Purpose of All Art

It’s a pretty lofty title. I don’t know how close it gets to the promise, but it’s a really great read. His insight is fascinating and it’s send me down a Talking Heads rabbit hole which can only ever be a good thing.

THE BEST SHOW I’M WATCHING

THE BEAR

I came to this pretty late. I’d heard so many proclaim it ‘the perfect show’ and other similar hyperbole. I can be a bit of a contrarian with these things and often will miss out altogether because I convince myself the hype is rarely ever justified (see: Tiger King).

But, The Bear. I’m sold and on the hype train. What a phenomenal piece of television. There’s not a thing I could even think of changing. It looks and sounds beautiful, the acting is faultless, the characters, the story, the depth. All while being a really fun watch. There better be a season 2 on the way.

SOMETHING I’M WORKING ON

Le Sans Pareil

Earlier this year I read a wonderful book on Bessie Smith written by Jackie Kay. It brought together a lot of inspiration points for me and pushed me in the direction of making some new work. It took a while to formulate in my head what that was, but ultimately I created a fictional blues club and photographed the ‘characters’ that frequented and played the club. A place I’d love to spend a night soaking up the atmosphere.

I published this last week. It’s nice to have it done after taking a while to pull together. I’d love if you took a look.

AND FINALLY

I photographed a show for Bon Iver recently. It was a highlight. Here’s some fan video from one of the greatest shows I’ve seen. What a privilege to be a small part.

Thanks for being here x
